Jasmine Pearls Tea by Teapigs 15 Tea Temples

About this tea:
Inside this packet are little pearls of hand-rolled green tea tips which have been infused with pure jasmine flowers. This is done in the most delicate of ways - the leaves are just allowed to rest amongst the flowers to pick up their floral scent - jasmine tea doesn't get any purer.

Seeped in water the leaves will unfurl from the jasmine pearl to reveal a whole leaf and a bud - surprisingly hypnotic viewing in my opinon.

These particular pearls are frequently called dragon phoenix pearls. Dragon Phoenix Pearl gets its name from the visual characteristics of the tea bushes "climbing" the hillsides like a dragon coming out of the water. Although I've seen these bushes climbing the hillside I've yet to see a dragon getting out of a bath so I can't vouch for the accuracy of this claim, unfortunately.

Taste:
very delicate green tea with a light, floral, refreshing, natural jasmine taste.

Try it:
naked... this tea alone, with hot water.

Good if you're feeling:
In need of relaxation and detox.like all teas this is bursting with antioxidants, the good guys that help keep us young and healthy.

Lapsang Souchong Luxury Loose Leaf Tea 100g

This special smoked tea has a distinctive flavour sometimes referred to as tarry, and is a special tea from Fujian province. The Fukienese word ‘souchong’ means sub variety - that is a sub variety of other black teas from the Wuyi Mountains of Fujian. When Lapsang Souchong was first exported to western European countries and became famous on the international markets, it was no doubt due to the distinct aroma and flavour.

Legend claims that the smoking process was discovered by accident. During the Qing dynasty, an army unit passing through Xingcun (Star Village) camped in a tea factory filled with fresh leaves awaiting processing. When the soldiers left and the workers could get back into the premises, they realized that to arrive at market in time, it was too late to dry the leaves in the usual way. So they lit open fires of pinewood to hasten the drying. Not only did the tea reach the market in time, but also the smoked pine flavour created a sensation!

The method of production is as follows: The leaves are first withered over fires of pine or cypress wood. After pan-frying and rolling, they are presses into wooden barrels and covered with cloth to ferment until they give off a pleasant fragrance. The leaves are fired again and rolled into taut strips. Then they are placed in bamboo baskets and hung on wooden racks over smoking pine fires to dry and absorb the smoke flavour. When finished they are thick, glossy black strips, and produce a dark red beverage with a unique aroma and taste. It is generally consumed with sugar or milk. Depending upon one’s palate the taste can be light and intriguing or it can be heavy and overpowering.

Lapsang Souchong is best described as an acquired taste.

Chamomile Flowers Tea by Teapigs 15 Tea Temples

About this tea:
It's long been known that the best chamomile tea comes from brewing the whole flowers. So guess what we sell? That's right, only the whole flowers of the Croatian chamomile bush. You may have noticed most other chamomile teas are made from crushed flowers, which in our view is a plain nasty thing to do. Equally, well known are the medicinal benefits of chamomile, which include calming, soothing anxiety and aiding sleep.

Compare the whole flowers in our tea temples to the dust in your regular tea bag; whole flowers are best.

Taste:
A beautiful yellow cup which gives way to a sweet, surprisingly juicy flavour of chamomile.

Try it:
"Au naturel"
Good if you're feeling:
Unable to switch off. One cup of this will calm any incessant mind-whirring, especially if you put your feet up while someone else makes it for you.

Peppermint - Herbal Tea or mixer for Loose Leaf Tea, 50g

The best peppermint comes from the northwestern United States. The pure, moist mountain air of the spring and early summer growing season gives this peppermint some of the highest volatile oil counts of any member of the mint family. Generally the second cut is the most flavorful, coolest and most pungent.
Peppermint is often consumed after meals as the oils stimulate the flow of bile and helps relieve gas pains. It has been reported that peppermint sweetens the breath and calms the digestive system, helps heartburn, stomach ache and nausea. An interesting way to use peppermint is to place a handful of peppermint in your bath which will lower your body temperature.
Peppermint is believed to be a hybrid species that evolved from spearmint and watermint. However, peppermint has been around for a long time. It has been found in 3000 year old Egyptian tombs. 2000 years ago the Japanese cultivated peppermint as a source of menthol. Peppermint is a primary ingredient in remedies used in the relief of gastrointestinal disorders, headaches, and local aches and pains. Peppermint tea is made from both the leaves and the flowers. As a hot tea it is cool and refreshing, as an iced tea the menthol content produces a pleasantly chilling taste sensation.

Peppermint is used extensively in various recipes. One of our favorites for 2 people is Banana Mint Slush.
1 ripe Banana, 1 teaspoon of Peppermint leaves, Grated peel of 1 lime, 1 cup of skim milk, 5 ice cubes
Place the banana in a blender and puree until smooth. Add the remaining ingredients and blend until slushy. Serve immediately. [Less than 100 calories)

Hot tea brewing method
Place 1/2 to 1 teaspoons of peppermint for each cup into the teapot. Pour boiling water into the teapot. Cover and let steep for 3-7 minutes according to taste (the longer the steeping time the stronger the flavor). Pour into your cup. Milk or sugar is not generally added to the cup.
