Damiana tea is reputed to offer a relaxing, mellowing effect. It is a little bitter with a floral bouquet similar to chamomile tea.
Damiana has been hailed as an aphrodisiac since ancient times. It was used as an aphrodisiac in ancient Mayan culture (no doubt with chocolate!), and monks reported the Mexican Indians would prepare a drink made from Damiana before lovemaking for greater power.
Damiana is currently used as an ingredient in Mexico for popular liqueurs including Agervero, Guaycura Liqueur De Damiana, and Tequila and features tannins and flavonoids; both of which are critical components of red wine when wine and beer making and are used for these components around the world in the production of fine wines and ale.
Hot Brewing Method for Tea: Use 1 heaping teaspoon of Damiana leaves per one cup of water and place this into your teapot (many successfully use a tea infuser when making herb tea or a Cafetiere) add hot but not boiling water and let it steep for 5-7 minutes before drinking. Add a little honey to sweeten if desired
